Hello, everybody! My name is Ann Marie. I named this blog RevolutionaryJane with the hopes of creating a feminist outlet for any plain Jane (or plain John, or plain Doe, or anyone else) who wants to help take down the patriarchy. I am a young feminist who is extremely passionate about helping others and making a change in the world. The other purpose of this blog is for a class leadership project. As a leader, I strive to be strong, kind, and fair.

My U-Zoo animal is a Lion. I very much agree with the assessment. I've taken it 3 different times for 3 different classes and I've gotten the same result each time. I feel like the Lion accurately represents me because they are said to be confident, assertive, bold, and determined. Determination and assertiveness are probably my 2 strongest traits. The first time I took the test my results resonated so soundly with me that it was shocking. I'm a very skeptical person but I believe in the accuracy of the U-Zoo placement quiz.

Recently in class, we learned about "problem turned into a challenge" which is where we had to solve a problem by being focused and collaborative with others. Real life is filled with problems that we turn into challenges. Basically, a problem is bad, but a challenge can be positive. Challenges are problems we can solve and learn from. One example of a problem-turned-challenge experience I've had had to do with my French class. My teacher always assigns lots (and lots) of homework, and one week I got sick. I fell behind on my homework and got really stressed out. I was 20 assignments behind! I didn't think I'd ever catch up, it seemed impossible with my busy schedule. Bystander Behavior

I have too often been a bystander to bullying. I am not afraid to speak up when I see something wrong happening, but often, it occurs so quickly that I find myself not speaking up in time. Surely we've all been in situations where we have witnessed something happen and had the thought to speak, but before we could the moment was over. Those moments are incredibly frustrating to me. I think it comes down to improving my skills at reading people and recognizing situations. This is something we all could work on. One time I wish a bystander would have stepped in is when a coach at my school brutally yelled at my boyfriend and I. It went on for a while and it wasn't just that he yelled at us, but nothing we did could please him. If I smiled, I was laughing at him. If I frowned, I was being disrespectful. Self-Awareness

I try to be a self-aware person. A defining character aspect of mine is that I am constantly trying to self-improve. One must be self-aware in order to know what they must improve. Due to my struggles with mental illness, I have had to become very aware of my own thoughts, feelings, actions and how they are all related. For example, I may notice one day that my behavior and feelings do not match my thoughts, and then try to correct myself and act the way I should. This lesson, the importance of being self-aware, has been deeply ingrained in me over the years. I definitely place more importance on being self-aware than your average 18-year-old. I think as you get older, maybe you become more self-aware. Especially after you start paying attention to your thoughts and striving for that awareness, then it just takes time to learn.
