Bystander Behavior

I have too often been a bystander to bullying. I am not afraid to speak up when I see something wrong happening, but often, it occurs so quickly that I find myself not speaking up in time. Surely we've all been in situations where we have witnessed something happen and had the thought to speak, but before we could the moment was over. Those moments are incredibly frustrating to me. I think it comes down to improving my skills at reading people and recognizing situations. This is something we all could work on. One time I wish a bystander would have stepped in is when a coach at my school brutally yelled at my boyfriend and I. It went on for a while and it wasn't just that he yelled at us, but nothing we did could please him. If I smiled, I was laughing at him. If I frowned, I was being disrespectful. He was being a bully because that was the kind of coach he was. I tried to appease him to no avail. For someone with anxiety issues, situations like this can quickly become unbear...

Priorities

Today I will be sharing my priorities. I like to separate my priorities into two main categories: Big and Little. Priorities that fall under the Big category tend to remain the same over the years, though new ones can be added or old ones can become irrelevant. These priorities are also usually more important to me. Little priorities are important too, but usually have less of an overall effect on my life. However, all of my priorities are priorities for a reason. They matter to me! For me, Big priorities are things like, Family, Relationships, Mental Health, School, and Money. ***To clarify, I believe physical health is important too, it just doesn't need as much attention (in my case) as mental health does. Some of my Little priorities are, homework, my social life, going to the gym, studying, etc. My little priorities have changed slightly since high school, because in school homework was never that important, and I worked out twice daily at school. I rarely studie...

Influences

Human beings are constantly being influenced. We are influenced by people, by the media, by our own experiences, and by word of others. Each day we are influenced by countless of sources. It is impossible to live a life without influence. However, in this post I want to specifically address the most notable people and experiences that have influenced my life. To start with, my mother. She was a major influence early in my life and has taught me a lot. She taught me to be myself and think outside the box, which contributes to a lot of my character. Other influences are my brothers, because they make me want to be the best I can possibly be, and they also make me want to be a great influence to them. My friends are also influential in ways, because they are all unique and kind souls that encourage me to not only be myself but to actively do good in the world. A more recent influence would be my boyfriend, whom I love very much. He has been a huge influence in my life by teaching me new t...

RevolutionaryJane

Hello, everybody! My name is Ann Marie. I named this blog RevolutionaryJane with the hopes of creating a feminist outlet for any plain Jane (or plain John, or plain Doe, or anyone else) who wants to help take down the patriarchy. I am a young feminist who is extremely passionate about helping others and making a change in the world. The other purpose of this blog is for a class leadership project. As a leader, I strive to be strong, kind, and fair. My U-Zoo animal is a Lion. I very much agree with the assessment. I've taken it 3 different times for 3 different classes and I've gotten the same result each time. I feel like the Lion accurately represents me because they are said to be confident, assertive, bold, and determined. Determination and assertiveness are probably my 2 strongest traits. The first time I took the test my results resonated so soundly with me that it was shocking. I'm a very skeptical person but I believe in the accuracy of the U-Zoo placement quiz.
